Technical Regulations
The decision as to eligibility or otherwise of a vehicle will rest with the Chief Scrutineer.
All vehicles must comply with schedules A and B (General Requirements of Automobiles), except for road registered vehicles which don’t have to comply with Schedule A sections 8 and 11.
All competitors must wear a helmet that complies with Australian Standards or FIA Standards as well as Clothing from ankles to neck to wrists. Clothing of flammable synthetic material, such as nylon, is not acceptable. Sturdy fully enclosed shoes are also required.
Drivers must hold a current membership card issued by one of the participating clubs together with at least a CAMS Level 2S or 2SJ licence
1 -STANDARD CAR CLASS
Any Modifications not specifically mentioned here under are prohibited.
Categories:
A: 0 – 2000 cc
B: 2001 – 4200 cc
C: 4201 & above
Criteria
(a) Be road in a registerable condition except for the freedoms shown below.
(b) Ignition system is free.
(c) Shock absorbers and springs are free, original number and location to be retained. Stabiliser bars are free. Ground clearance to be at least 100mm (excluding exhaust).
(d) Brake pad material is free.
(e) Clutch is free.
(f) Roll cages are permitted and encouraged. Seats, door trims & dash must be retained, however rear seat may be removed when cage fitted. Carpet and headlining can be removed.
(g) Exhaust is free, but must be road registerable and not excessively noisy.
(h) Inlet manifold, number, type and make of carburettor(s)/fuel injection to remain as supplied by the manufacturer for that particular model, but carburettors may be rejetted. ECU’s on fuel injected vehicles are free.
(i) Air filters are free.
(j) Thermatic fans may be added.
(k) Tyres are free as long as they are able to be used on public roads and have a roadworthy tread depth.
(l) Wheels may be up to a maximum of 7″ wide for cars up to 3000cc, or 8″ for cars over 3000cc, or greater only if that width was supplied by the original manufacturer. Any type of wheel is permitted e.g. Mags. Wheel diameter may be altered from standard to the next size larger or smaller eg. 13″ to 14″ or 13″ to 12″.
(m)Aerodynamic Aids are free.
(o) Replacement of window glass with any other material, eg. perspex, is specifically prohibited.
(p) The engine must be the same identifiable original block and cylinder head(s), or rotor housings, as supplied by the original manufacturer for that particular model. Internal modifications are free.
(q) Steering wheels are free but must be CAMS approved.
(r) Items such as gauges, seats, mudflaps, etc. are free unless otherwise specifically prohibited.
(s) Turbochargers and superchargers and similar forced induction devices are not permitted unless a factory fitment. Engine capacity, where allowed, will be subject to a multiplication factor as specified in the relevant CAMS regulation.
(t) Fitting of a full harness is permitted and encouraged.
(u) Fitting of a tailshaft strap is permitted and encouraged.
2 -MODIFIED CAR CLASS
Categories:
D: 0 – 2000 cc
E: 2001 – 4200 cc
F: 4201 & above
Criteria:
A competition vehicle derived from a registered production automobile, with limited modifications to improve performance and reliability in race or speed events on circuits or other licensed tracks.
Cars must comply with CAMS Group 3J (Improved Production) rules with the following exceptions:
4.5 Where a supercharger or turbo charger is fitted, restrictors are not required.
11.1 Wheels are free
11.2 Tyres are free as long as they have a tread pattern and are not worn beyond the tread depth indicators.
16.1 Capacity Classes as above.
3 – RACING CAR CLASS / SPECIALS
Categories:
G: 0 – 2000 cc
H: 2001 – 4200 cc
I: 4201 & above
J : All capacity open wheel cars
All vehicles with:
- slick/racing tyres
- different manufacturer’s engines
- major engine swaps
(ie. increase in number of cylinders.)
- Clubman Type Vehicles
- Open -Wheelers
- Sports sedans
- Buggies,
- Unclassifiable Specials.
